free holiday mitten ornament pattern

I first designed this little ornament two years ago and offered the pattern on disdressed, my personal blog. It’s been quite popular. But I wasn’t entirely happy with the method we used to make it available, and I thought it might be fun to fix it up a bit and give it to you as a little holiday gift.

So here it is. (Click to download the .pdf.)

I’m making a bunch of these ornaments (24 or 25? I need your help deciding) as an advent calendar for S this year. They also make great little gifts or gift toppers, and can be embellished with leftover buttons or a little embroidery. They would also look amazing with a little reverse applique a la Alabama Chanin. (See her book for detailed instructions on this technique.)

Enjoy, and happy holidays from Oliver + S!

(P.S. If you need a little help with the blanket stitch for this pattern, Future Girl has a terrific tutorial that I highly recommend.)

This is just precious, Liesl! Thank you for the free pattern! Every year I like to have my kids make one handmade ornament. I think I know what we will be making this year.

Thank you for this adorable ornament pattern! I’ve been busy making 21-wale corduroy skirts for my youngest granddaughters using the Sunday Brunch pattern–love the little kick pleat and pockets!

So cute! I opt for 24 pockets.. I think it’s more fun for the kids to get to see the advent calendar all finished on Christmas Eve.. because really, how can a little advent calendar compete with Santa and all the excitement of Christmas morning?

Thanks so much for the cute mitten pattern. I made them for my daughter-in-law who recently lost her dad to cancer. The cuff material was made from one of his shirts. I also used the buttons from the shirt on some of the mittens. Thanks again.

I love the power of the Internet! Thank you for the pattern – our community is doing an Ornament Exchange wherein we make 6 ornaments, the organizers give one to our Senior Care Facility, and then we take home 5 other ornaments for ourselves. Thanks!

These are precious. I just made small felt stockings ornaments with numbers on them 1 – 24. I sold them at an auction to raise money for Education. A pregnant friend bought them.

Love the little mitten pattern. I have just been asked to make a craft for a church Christmas bazaar as a fundraiser. Can I use this pattern if I plan to sell the mittens or would I be breaking copyright rules. Thanks
