Oliver + S Wholesale Customer Newsletter

September, 2010, Vol. 24

I'm happy to announce that our new Fall 2010 patterns are now available. Wholesale pre-orders have shipped, and if you order through one of our distributors they should be shipping the patterns shortly. If you haven't ordered yet, existing customers can do so through our wholesale website, and new customers can order by downloading our new account order form

This month will also see the arrival of our City Weekend fabric collection. Check in with your Moda rep to confirm the delivery date or to try to get a last-minute order in.

Our newsletter this month recaps a number of recent blog posts introducing our four new patterns and provides you (and your customers) with a little inspiration to plan some fall sewing.

Cheers,

Liesl

School Photo Dress

The School Photo Dress is a stylish, lined, above-the-knee-length, A-line dress that features a hidden, on-seam, front kangaroo pocket and an invisible back zipper.

We think your customers will like this pattern because, depending on the fabric selection, the dress can be appropriate either for everyday school wear or for a special occasion such as a wedding or a holiday. In our blog post introducing this pattern, we showed photos of it made from a print in our new City Weekend collection and in a pink silk dupioni.

This pattern is rated three of four scissors in difficulty. It's a more time-consuming and challenging pattern that gives very impressive results. But, as with all our patterns, this one is very achievable because we break the construction down with clear step-by-step instructions. As a more challenging pattern, this style makes a good workshop project for more advanced seamstresses.

Hopscotch Skirt, Knit Top + Dress

The Hopscotch Skirt, Knit Top + Dress pattern includes a girl's skirt and knit top. The top can also be made as a dress.

The skirt (designed for woven fabrics) features an elastic-back waistband, front button placket, and an interesting pleated pocket detail inspired by a Chinese takeout container.

The pullover top or dress is designed to be sewn with knit fabrics. (This month we posted a short piece on the blog about sewing with knits that you might want to review and share with your customers.) It includes both long- and short-sleeve options and is as comfortable to wear as it is cute to look at.

This pattern is easier to sew and is rated as two of four scissors in difficulty. It's a great project to experiment with knit sewing.

Music Box Jumper

The Music Box Jumper is one of the easiest patterns we have written, and based on the feedback we've already received it will probably become one of our bestsellers.

This pattern has been designed especially for new seamstresses who are looking to build their skills with a sewing machine or to complete their first sewing project from a pattern.

This empire-waist jumper can be worn alone or layered over a blouse or shirt in cooler weather. In our blog post introducing the pattern, we provided more information on both view A  and view B (shown here) which features an A-line skirt with a single, inverted box pleat at center front and a decorative button tab detail.

The pattern is rated one of four scissors in difficulty. It makes an excellent project for a class teaching newer seamstresses how to sew from a pattern.

Nature Walk Pullover + Knit Pants

The Nature Walk Pullover + Knit Pants pattern includes an easy-to-sew pullover top in a color-blocked design. The knit pants are pull-on style and have a hidden elastic waist.

The pullover top can be made in lightweight woven or knit fabrics for a casual shirt or in heavier fabrics for use as a layering piece in place of a sweatshirt or jacket. The ability to use two different fabric types in a single garment provides you with lots of opportunity to customize the piece.

The pants pattern, inspired by a classic yoga pant, is intended for knits. It's a very versatile piece, and we think it's going to become a favorite in many kids' wardrobe. It even makes a great pajama bottom.

Like the new Hopscotch pattern, this item is rated two of four scissors in difficulty.

You can see more photos of these new items on the Oliver + S blog. If you would like to host an Oliver + S trunk show featuring these new styles at your shop, please contact the studio. We have a few dates available in December.

For more sewing inspiration, there's always something new in the Oliver + S Flickr group. With more than 1,000 members and over 4,800 photos posted to date, you're sure to find something to inspire your customers' next creations!

Until next month, happy sewing!
