Can you believe summer is over? I can't but I'm trying to console myself (as many of your customers probably are) by planning my autumn sewing.
I'm happy to tell you that our three new pattern styles for Fall + Winter 2011 are now available. We hope they will help set your shoppers in the right autumn mood. If you pre-ordered the patterns from us, your order has already shipped. If you would like to place your order from us, you may do so now using your wholesale customer website account or by downloading our wholesale order form. These new styles will also be available through our distributors within the next few weeks.
This season’s line includes two patterns for girls and a unisex pajama pattern that is sure to be a hit with your customers who are already planning their holiday sewing.
I'm also excited to announce a new Oliver + S product line that will be of interest to your customers: an instructional DVD series. The videos will be available later this fall and are a great supplemental product for you to offer to your new and existing apparel sewers.
Cheers,
Liesl

When school is over, it’s time to change into something cute and comfortable.
The pattern for this perfect after-school outfit for girls features a loose-fitting pull-on shirt with long sleeves, a bateau neck, and a cute offset button detail at the front and back yokes.
The pull-on elastic-waist pants include a separate side panel which allows for use of a contrast trim near the hem. An alternate view of the pants includes ruffle details at the front pocket opening and at the back.
We published two preview posts for this pattern on the blog last month. An introduction to the pattern, and then a post featuring photos taken by some of our wonderful pattern testers.
This pattern is rated two of four scissors in difficulty.

What better way to spenda cool afternoon than going apple picking?
The pattern for this versatile dress includes a wide button placket, a bow at the neck, bias-bound sleeves, and a dropped waist for a vintage feel.
View A has three-quarter length sleeves and a double-layer gathered skirt, while view B is long sleeved with a single-layer skirt.
You can see more photos of the dress in action in our first and second blog posts introducing this style.
It is rated two of four scissors in difficulty.

The pattern for thisboys’ or girls’ pajama top, which was inspired by vintage baseball jersey styling, features contrast trim at the outside edge and on the pockets. The cuff at the sleeves can be let down as the child grows.
The elastic-waist pull-on pants have no side seam for extra sleeping comfort and include contrast bias cuff at the hem that can also be let down as the child grows.
Make the alternate view with ruffles for a sweet girls’ version.
Like our now out-of-print Bedtime Story Pajama pattern, this style is very versatile and is one your customers are sure to return to again and again.
We previewed this pattern on the blog, as well. And this week we'll give you another peek at the pattern, along with an interesting idea for finishing the ruffled version.
This pattern, as well, is rated two of four scissors in difficulty.

All the photos above show our new patterns made from our upcoming Cape Ann fabric collection from Moda.
Cape Ann features sweet and charming hand-drawn illustrations which are simultaneously nostalgic and contemporary, as well as supporting prints inspired by nature. The line includes 24 SKUs in quilting cotton and 24 SKUs in a wonderful brushed cotton which has the loft, warmth, and softness of flannel. To see the prints and colorways included in the collection, you can download a PDF of the line list from our website.
The collection will ship in October. Your Moda rep is taking orders now.

This past July, Liesl worked with a team from Interweave, the publishers of Stitch magazine, to record two instructional videos in our Brooklyn studio.
The first of those videos, Apparel Sewing Basics, will be available later this fall in DVD format.
The video introduces Liesl's favorite apparel sewing tools, talks about selecting and preparing fabric to sew garments, and shows how to get an apparel pattern ready to sew. Then Liesl demonstrate how to sew curves, corners, gathers and ease-stitches, and edgestitching.
There are lots of little tips and tricks that will help your customers as they sew. And there are also some fun bits and interesting interview segments interspersed between the sewing lessons.
You can view a short preview of the video on our blog. (And, yes, that is how Liesl commutes to the office on most days.)
Stay turned to the Oliver + S blog this season for an announcement about when the DVD begins shipping and a preview of the second video in the series which will be released later this fall.
